Gibbes, etc. is
an organization of Kiawah Island women dedicated to the support of the
Gibbes Museum of Art. It was founded in 2001 by four Kiawah women who are
experienced volunteers in the Charleston arts community.
Members of Gibbes,etc.
meet frequently during the year to enjoy a variety of programs, art tours,
and speakers on various topics of current and community interest. The
Organization has two annual fundraising events to benefit the Museum: an
evening of dinners, in private Kiawah homes, provided for members
and their guests and the annual Kiawah Art and House tour.
Since its inception,
Gibbes, etc. has presented the Gibbes Art Museum with approximately
$615,000 to help support traveling exhibitions and to fund art education
projects in the Community. In 2008, $100,000 raised by the Organization
was donated to the Museum to sponsor two exhibitions. This donation also
supported “Art To Go,” an outreach art education program taught on Johns
Island by instructors from the Gibbes School of Art.
In 2007, Gibbes,etc.
helped sponsor “Rodin in His own Words”, an exhibit featuring bronzes and
