Gibbes, etc. is an organization of Kiawah Island women, dedicated
to the support of the Gibbes Museum of Art. It was founded in 2001, by
four women who are experienced volunteers and fund raisers, in the
Charleston arts community.
Members of Gibbes, etc. attend a series of programs and art tours,
featuring speakers on various topics of current and community interest.
The organization holds two annual fundraising events to benefit the
museum: an evening of dinners, in private Kiawah homes, provided for
members and their guests, and the annual Kiawah Art and House Tour.
Since its inception, Gibbes, etc. has raised approximately $713,500 for
the Gibbes Museum of Art, to help support traveling exhibitions, and to
fund art education projects in the community. In 2009, $100,000 was
donated to the museum to sponsor three exhibitions: “Ancestry and
Innovation: African American Art,” “Brian Rutenberg: Tidesong,” and
“Photographs of Daufuskie Island by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe.”
We offer continuing support to “Art to Go,” an outreach art education
program taught on Johns Island, by instructors from the Gibbes School of
Art.
